What you’ll learn:

  • How to follow a bag pattern with step-by-step illustrated instructions
  • Techniques for piecing assorted prints into a striking design
  • Constructing a sturdy tote with foam stabilizer for shape and durability
  • Adding strapping for strong, comfortable handles
  • Tips for achieving a professional finish with lining and binding

Skill level:
Best suited for advanced beginners and intermediate sewists. If you’re comfortable with basic sewing and want to try bag-making, this class is a perfect next step.

Materials needed:

  • Quilter’s Big Tote Pattern by Minki Kim
  • 20 assorted dark prints (10″ squares) if you are piecing the front and back 
  • 20 assorted white prints (10″ squares) if you are piecing the front and back 
  • Dark print fat quarter (bottom panel & binding)
  • 1 yard lining fabric
  • 1 yard foam stabilizer (Soft and Stable, Pellon Flex Foam, or Bosal In-R-Form)
  • 2 yards strapping (1½″ wide)
  • Basic sewing supplies: walking foot, ¼″ foot, fabric glue, scissors, pins

Class outcome:
By the end of the workshop, you’ll have a finished, reversible tote bag that’s roomy enough for quilting projects, shopping trips, or everyday use. You’ll also gain confidence in bag construction techniques that can be applied to future projects.
