Session 1 — Getting Started: Tools, Hoops & the Running Stitch

  • Introduction to hand?quilting tools and materials
  • How to prepare your quilt sandwich and load a hoop
  • Threading, knotting, and using a thimble
  • Learning the running stitch: spacing, rhythm, and consistency
  • Practice stitching straight lines on a small sampler

Session 2 — Building Control: Grids, Echo Lines & Direction Changes

  • Techniques for marking quilting lines
  • Stitching parallel lines and crosshatch grids
  • How to turn corners smoothly and maintain even stitches
  • Troubleshooting tension, puckers, and wobbly lines
  • Continued practice on your sampler

Session 3 — Curves & Simple Shapes

  • How to mark and stitch gentle curves
  • Quilting basic shapes: fans, diamonds, hearts, feathers, or motifs of your choice
  • Strategies for keeping curves smooth and shapes recognizable
  • Adding decorative touches with thread color and spacing

Session 4 — Finishing Techniques & Personal Style

  • Removing marks and pressing your finished piece
  • Exploring traditional vs. modern hand?quilting aesthetics
  • Tips for choosing designs for future quilts
  • Wrap?up stitching time and Q&A
  • Working on larger quilts: hoop options, basting methods, and marking recommendations
